A Bold Bathroom Renovation
Jo & Ryan from @anotherfknflat
In December, Jo & Ryan took on their bathroom renovation. After 3 months, a full gutting of the old bathroom, plumbing re-routing and door move later, their dream bathroom was complete.

What inspired the design choices?
We’ve always been a big fan of a classic checkerboard tile look, so I think this was always in the back of our minds when we would eventually come to doing the bathroom. Eventually, we landed on doing a green and white palette using some very subtle grey terrazzo tiling. We’re both from creative backgrounds with work and hobbies, so I think this always helps towards our vision for each room.
R2 had only just released the Platform unit in Oak which we knew instantly was going to tie the colours in perfectly.
Alongside that we went with gunmetal finishes on all our taps, shower heads and other bits which works beautifully with the colours again.

What initially sparked your bathroom renovation?
To be honest, it’s been the last main room in the flat that we needed to renovate for a while but couldn’t due to funds. Our flat renovation is a slow process which we chip away at when we both have spare time and/or we get the opportunity to work with companies such as R2 to work on projects together.
So when R2 got in touch to work alongside us, we were buzzing to say the least. This instantly sparked our creative juices again on how we could create a lush bathroom space.

The Finer Details

Are you pleased with the final outcome?
Having a nice bathroom now has changed the overall feeling of the entire flat! We’re more than pleased with the result and all the components supplied by R2 have created a super “high end” feel to the room. We both even said to each other, how have we gone this long with our old dated bathroom.
It’s such a nice space!

How was the renovation process?
Typically we decided to do this room in December when it was freezing cold, so that was fun! Again, due to our jobs. We had a super tight schedule to get this done so we wouldn’t be without a working bathroom.
The original layout of the bathroom was slightly different, with the door entrance opening into dead unusable space in a corner. This didn’t make any sense, so we knocked out that wall and changed the position of the door entrance. Because of this, we gained a tiny washroom area just before the bathroom whilst technically not losing any valuable space within the bathroom at all. That also meant we had a nice wide open-plan bathroom for a little while prior haha!
Once we got everything delivered we ripped our the whole bathroom, got the plumbing re-routed, boxed in the rear wall for hidden pipework, boxed in the bath ready for paneling, plastered, tiled and fitted everything within a week. A few late nights and finished with a drunken, after night out, floor grouting session.
